Expensive but if you love Longfellow, it feels like a must-have!! What a classic book, great quality. You lift off the cover, and you have a classic, old-school bound beautiful book, super-slim pages like Bibles sometimes have... Cool little built-in ribbon marker... The best, most quality book I've bought in a while
If you like Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, this is a must have!
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow has been a beloved poet of mine since grade school. This book is a fine collectible with a protective casing with gold edging and print which reads The Library Of America. It contains Longfellow's best works (1807-1882), copyrighted in the year 2000, by the Literary Classics of the United States. I am proud to have it in my collection.
A Treasure of classic American lore and poetry from a true master! Absolutely love this book, and especially love the poem of the Ride of Paul Revere.
My wife and I are enjoying this book immensely. We previously knew Longfellow only from extracts in anthologies.
It is nice to read all of Hiawatha. And much of the other material is new to us, especially the works about Michelangelo. His novel and table-talk are also pleasant surprises; we would have liked some of his non-fictional writing.
The notes are interesting, but it would have been helpful to indicate in the text where a note occurs. And some more material about Longfellow and his times would have been nice; there is a nice chronology. There is too much about the textual sources.
But the quibbles are minor. Longfellow is worth a revival and this book goes a long way.

The Song of Hiawatha! This is a true American classic and is an awesome poem written by Longfellow.

I really like these Library of America printings. They are on acid free paper and just the right size with good margins for notes. I think it is also a durable hard binding, much better than any Norton anthology I have ever used. There is also a ribbon for place marking. If you only buy one poet a year...
